Rospa International has forged a reputation for offering rare sportscars to local clients. Dream cars that are not usually available in South Africa. By and large these dream machines have been sourced from Japan.

America’s most famous sportscar in SA

Cars such as the legendary Nissan Skyline GT-R, drift ready Toyota AE86 and everyone’s favourite ‘Dorito’ motor, the Mazda RX-7.However, the company has, of late, diversified its portfolio. The range of high-performance machines on offer has grown to include the famous Chevrolet Corvette.

“People usually think of JDM cars when they hear the name Rospa. But we’re expanding the business to cater for car enthusiasts with different tastes. We want to bring all the forbidden fruit to SA,” said company founder Himal Chris Paul. “We are proud to announce that we are now offering Chev Corvettes to local enthusiasts.”

Since the introduction of the eighth generation Corvette (C8) the iconic nameplate has been available in right-hand-drive guise from the factory. This means that Rospa can offer brand new cars from the manufacturer directly to local clients.

Rospa International will be offering two Corvette derivatives in SA. These are the ‘entry-level’ Stingray and the high-performance Z06.

“When most people think of a Corvette, they think it’s just one derivative. But the Corvette is similar to the Porsche 911 in that there are many versions from base Carrera all the way to GT2 RS, even if they look similar, they aren’t,” explained Paul.

“We are offering the Stingray, which is powered by a 6,2-litre, naturally aspirated V8. It may be entry level but it packs almost 370 kW. The Stingray is available in three trim levels: 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT, each with increasing levels of comfort and tech.”

“For performance fans we have the more focussed Z06. This car has the world’s most powerful series production naturally aspirated V8 engine. The 5,5-litre engine has a flat-plane crankshaft, which allows it to rev to nearly 9 000 rpm, and produces 475 kW of power. The Z06 can sprint from zero to 100 km/h in under three seconds and it has a top speed of almost 315 km/h. This is a serious performance car,” enthused Paul.

Both versions of the Corvette, available through Rospa International, are fitted with eight-speed dual-clutch transmissions that drive the rear wheels.

“Buyers can get in touch to chat with us about ordering a Stingray or Z06. In time, we are also aiming to offer the even wilder, turbocharged ZR1 and the ZR1X hypercar to local buyers, but both of those cars haven’t entered production yet,” concluded Paul.
