Johannesburg – Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has expanded its popular people mover model range with the introduction of the Trendline Plus model into the Kombi 2.0 BiTDI 132kW DSG engine derivative. Until now, the 2.0 BiTDI 132kW DSG model was only available in a Comfortline trim.

In South Africa, the legendary Kombi has been the best-selling T-series derivative for the past six decades. The local production of the T-Series in Uitenhage ended in 2002 and since the local introduction of the sixth-generation Kombi in 2015, close to 5 000 (4 991) units have been sold in South Africa.

‘‘We have restructured the Kombi range in order to cater for the needs of our customers and as such the Kombi range is now available in the following derivatives; 2.0 TDI 75kW Trendline standard and long wheelbases, 2.0 TDI 103kW DSG Trendline and Trendline Plus, 2.0 BiTDI 132kW DSG Trendline Plus and the top of the range 2.0 BiTDI 132kW DSG Comfortline,‘‘ said Mark Handley, Head of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.

Standard exterior features of the Kombi Trendline Plus model include 17-inch ‘Devonport’ alloy wheels, LED headlights and tail lights, dynamic headlight range control, park distance control (front and rear), rear-view reversing camera and a fixed tow bar. The model can be customised with optional features like the folding side mirrors, comfort package and the light and sight package.

Interior highlights include a multi-function steering wheel, multi-function display, ‘Composition Media’ radio with AppConnect, six speaker system, adjustable arm rests for driver, voice enhancer for rear passengers, easy-to-clean rubber flooring and Cruise Control. Carpet floor covering, leatherette upholstery, comfort front passenger seat with armrest and side and curtain airbags for front and rear passengers are available as options.

The Kombi is equipped with a number of safety systems that are activated in critical situations as a preventative measure. Safety systems like the post-collision braking, driver alert, fog lights with integrated cornering lights (optional) and rear-view camera are offered alongside a range of innovative driver assistance systems designed to provide convenience and even greater levels of occupant protection.
The 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo engine’s highest performance of 132kW is reached at 4 000 rpm. At engine speeds as low as 1 500 rpm, the bi-turbo delivers an impressive maximum torque of 400 Newton metres. The Kombi’s maximum speed is 191 km/h.
