Captivating Discovery Sport Urban Edition features distinctive design enhancements
Three engine options: 2022 model lineup includes next-generation Ingenium diesel and petrol engines together with an advanced P300e plug-in hybrid
Unique Urban Edition complements Land Rover South Africa’s Discovery Sport range in 2022
Pretoria, 22 December 2021 – The Discovery Sport, Land Rover’s family-friendly 5+2 seat premium compact SUV, continues in South Africa in 2022 with a choice of three powertrain options and three specification packages including a unique Urban Edition.
URBAN EDITION
The Discovery Sport Urban Edition is based on the R-Dynamic models, but the Special Edition features distinctive design elements including shadow aluminium finishers, non-leather Luxtec Suedecloth seats and a black contrast roof. It’s available in five colourways: Carpathian Grey, Firenze Red, Santorini Black, Ostuni White and Hakuba Silver.
The Urban Edition features a suite of Land Rover technologies, including a powered tailgate and the ClearSight Interior Rear View Mirror which switches seamlessly between a video feed and mirror, allowing the driver to see what’s behind the vehicle easily – even if the view is obscured by passengers or luggage.
THREE ENGINE OPTIONS
The Discovery Sport is available with a choice of two four-cylinder Ingenium powertrains - both paired with eight-speed automatic transmissions. The D200 turbodiesel produces 147kW and a hefty 430Nm with acceleration from 0-100km/h happening in 8.6 seconds, while the 183kW/365Nm P250 turbopetrol delivers 0-100km/h in 7.8 seconds.
A third powertrain option, the P300e plug-in hybrid (PHEV), delivers the performance, refinement and capability customers expect together with an electric-only range of up to 60km and CO2 emissions as low as 48g/km*. The PHEV offers sustainable performance by combining a 147kW 1.5-litre three-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine with an 80kW electric motor integrated into the rear axle and powered by a 15kWh lithium-ion battery located below the rear seats. It accelerates from 0-100km/h in just 6.6 seconds delivers fuel economy as low as 1.5l/100km.
The PHEV’s SAVE mode allows the system to recharge more effectively on the move when battery charge is being saved for a later part of the journey – at a steady 113km/h, up to 80 percent of the battery charge can be attained in just 90 minutes**.
ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES
Inspired by the latest mobile devices, the Land Rover Discovery Sport employs the very latest consumer technology to deliver its Pivi and Pivi Pro infotainment systems.
The systems are underpinned by an Electrical Vehicle Architecture first introduced on the New Land Rover Defender. The architecture comprises 85 ECUs to support the next-generation of driver assistance and customer convenience systems. Featuring two embedded Qualcomm LTE modems – one dedicated to the Software-Over-The-Air (SOTA) technology and another looking after music streaming and apps – the electrical architecture ensures seamless connectivity and a quick start-up time, so customers don’t need to wait for the system to load before performing actions such as entering navigation details. The system also has high-performance Snapdragon processors and an advanced QNX operating system for a responsive and intuitive experience.
Music streaming service Spotify is now integrated as a ‘media source’ within the infotainment menu and connectivity is supported by Bluetooth pairing for two phones at once. Wireless device charging with signal-boosting is also available as an option. Land Rover’s second-generation Activity Key allows customers to unlock any door, lock or even start the vehicle just by being nearby – with no need for a traditional key fob.
Activated via the touchscreen, customers can now check the quality of the air in the cabin with a smart Cabin Air Filtration system which also filters out harmful fine particulate matter often found in cities and high-traffic areas. The system – introduced in addition to the existing Cabin Air Ionisation feature – can filter out fine particulate matter, allergens, pollen and even strong smells. The system can filter ultrafine particulates (up to and even below PM2.5). Occupants simply select 'Purify' mode to activate the system, which filters and continually monitors the air inside the cabin relative to the air outside. The touchscreen offers reassurance that the air within is cleaner than the air outside.
Other technology within Discovery Sport includes a comprehensive suite of Advanced Driver Assistance features, such as Rear Traffic Monitor with automatic braking. Rear Collision Monitor uses radars to constantly monitor the vehicle’s rear, meaning the Discovery Sport is primed to reduce the severity of an impact for the occupants, while the optional 3D Surround Camera lets the driver see what’s happening around the vehicle at speeds of up to 19mph, making manoeuvring and even navigating difficult terrain simpler than ever.
These systems complement the ClearSight Ground View and ClearSight Interior Rear View Mirror technologies introduced in 2019; smart camera technology stitches together images below the bonnet, while the latter provides an interchangeable rear-view mirror and video screen, for enhanced visibility.
Discovery Sport features a practical 5+2 design, with 40:20:40 split-folding second row seats that provides 24 possible seat configurations, ensuring flexibility for family adventures.
