Rosslyn, South Africa (November 23, 2020) – Nissan recently launched its latest global innovation called Nissan Magnite, a compact SUV and true reflection of the commitment towards the expansion of the Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) offering which prioritises the crossover segment within the market. The Nissan Magnite will be available in South Africa and Mauritius, Seychelles, Malawi, Kenya, Mozambique, Uganda and Tanzania Sub-Saharan African countries in early 2021.

Building on Nissan’s global SUV heritage and advanced technology, the all-new Nissan Magnite is designed for tomorrow’s journey as a feature-rich premium offering with stylish design for a strong and dynamic road presence.

Nissan has a strong DNA in SUVs and the all-new Nissan Magnite brings this DNA to the customer, first of its kind for Nissan and like no other SUV in its class. It’s a giant leap for the Nissan SUV family. The kind of leap that will change your perspective on compact SUV’s.

The evolving demand for crossover/SUV vehicles

Nissan has a proven history of innovation when it comes to all-terrain travel and finding product niche. A leader in the first crossover with the Qashqai in 2006, now in 2020 it is quite common to see a wide selection of crossovers to fit different consumer needs, taste for adventure, family sizes and more. For example, the X-Trail, which remains a regarded compact SUV along with Qashqai can claim to have had a significant share in establishing the compact crossover vehicle concept in South Africa.

Crossovers are increasing in popularity due to being larger than traditional passenger cars, while still being smaller than larger SUVs. They can be both compact and feature a substantial amount of storage space at the same time, making them the ideal vehicle format for everyday use.

The crossover and SUV segment are the fastest-growing segments in South Africa and although local motorists are passionate about pickups, within the South African passenger vehicle segment, 27% of vehicles being bought by customers today are now SUVs or crossovers from 2019 to date. Further to that, Nissan has also noticed that more consumers are turning to SUVs and crossovers when considering their next vehicles for a number of reasons ranging from higher ground clearance, practicality, comfort and style as well as enabling more adventure for long road trips.

The size and features make this new crossover Nissan Magnite a captivating entry point into long- distance travelling vehicles. It also speaks on the versatility of Nissan in the crossover segment for the past 15 years constantly evolving with the needs and demands of its customers.
