In South Africa, the festive season is synonymous with sharing good will and happiness. Sadly, this is also the period when the country records its highest road fatalities, mostly attributed to reckless driving.

TOYOTA LAUNCHES #DRIVE BETTER CAMPAIGN
o make a difference, Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) has launched #DriveBetter – a campaign that makes it possible for good drivers to score points that are converted to Rands and then donated to charity.

The beneficiary is none other Jumping Kids – a registered non-profit organisation that provides access to lower-limb prosthetic solutions to previously disadvantaged children living with amputations.

The campaign is open to all Toyota drivers whose vehicles are fitted with Toyota Connect and have opted in to using the system. In essence, Toyota is giving South Africans a reason to start driving better – and the better people drive, the more money Toyota will donate to Jumping Kids. #DriveBetter works with the telematics element of Toyota Connect by giving drivers a score out of 100, based on their driving behaviour.

For every person who then shares their score on Facebook or Twitter, Toyota will donate 10 times the equivalent Rand value to Jumping Kids. So, the better people drive, the more they can change a child’s life for the better. #DriveBetter launched on 07 December and will continue till 15 January 2021. According Vice President of Marketing at TSAM, Glenn Crompton: “In light of Toyota’s global aim to become a mobility company, it makes sense for us to use the Toyota/Lexus Connect platform for #DriveBetter, and in turn, channel the proceeds to an organisation whose objective it is to promote personal mobility to children with physical disabilities. We are also honoured and inspired that Toyota brand ambassador Ntando Mahlangu is a product of Jumping Kids.”

Launched more than a year ago, the technology enables the driver and passengers a myriad of convenience features including in-car Wi-Fi and safety benefits. Once linked to the MyToyota App via Toyota Connect, owners can make on-demand service bookings, retrieve vehicle usage information (logbook), renew vehicle licences, review tracking data, request roadside assistance and more.
