The Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) is sharing its vision of the future and in some cases the very near future, at the Japan Mobility Show. The show is currently under way at the Tokyo Big Sight in Japan and Suzuki’s booth is themed: “Answers for Excitement throughout the World”.

This is the very first time that the Japan Mobility Show has been held, and it has brought together over 475 different organisations from across the world.

As a grand opening, Suzuki used its platform at the Japan Mobility Show to reveal the first concept model of the upcoming Suzuki Swift. The Swift Concept shares many of the design themes of the current model but is all-new from the tyres to the roof.

According to Suzuki engineers, the new Suzuki Swift will offer a range of new high-efficiency engines that deliver great power, while further improving on the impressive fuel consumption figures of the current range.

The new Swift Concept also has a range of advanced technologies, such as dual-sensor brake support, an adaptive high-beam light system and a new driver-monitoring system, thereby showing the world that vehicles can be light, compact and affordable and still have best-in-class dynamic and passive safety equipment.

The Swift Concept took centre stage at the Mobility Show, flanked by models such as the eVX Concept and other new all-electric vehicles such as the Spacia, the eWX and the eEVERY Concept.

“Suzuki has brought its expertise to bear on the field of electric vehicles, and we believe that it will benefit the entire auto industry. For instance, the new eVX Concept is a compact SUV, yet it is claimed to offer a range of 500 km on one battery charge,” says Brendon Carpenter, the Brand Marketing Manager of Suzuki Auto South Africa.

The Suzuki eVX Concept was first revealed in India at the Auto Expo 2023 in January, and this week in Tokyo it is being shown with a full interior and more technical details about the electronically controlled 4x4-system that utilises multiple electric motors to give the new SUV true-blue overlanding capabilities.

Suzuki Motor Corporation has said that it wants to introduce no less than six battery electric vehicle ranges (BEV) by 2030 in Japan and India and five BEVs in Europe in the same timeframe.

Suzuki is not only focusing on electric cars, SUVs and commercial vehicles. At the Japan Mobility Show, the company revealed a number of next-generation electric motorcycles and outboard motors. This included an all-electric version of its popular Burgman scooter, called the e-Burgman, and a hydrogen-powered concept model of the same scooter family.

Suzuki Motor Corporation announced plans to introduce its first fully electric motorcycles and outboard motors by the next financial year, with a full range of eight different BEV motorcycles on the cards by 2030. There will be six electric outboard-motor ranges in the same period, and Suzuki will investigate the use of carbon-neutral fuels for its internal combustion models as well.

The Japan Mobility Show will continue until Sunday 5 November, and Suzuki Auto South Africa will share more information on the new Swift, eVX Concept and other concept and production models at the show in due course.
