The combination of imported BILSTEIN shocks and local springs make the Jimny more capable than ever

BILSTEIN South Africa’s locally-optimised Raise Your Game range has been expanded with the addition of a kit for the Suzuki Jimny, the country’s most affordable off-roader.

Raise Your Game (RYG) kits continue to up the ante when it comes to value-rich suspension upgrades for a growing range of SUVs, and bakkie-based 4x4s. With the addition of the Jimny, there are now 12 distinct part numbers in the BILSTEIN SA RYG inventory. Various Toyota, Ford, Nissan, VW and Isuzu models are catered for.

The latest kit fits the current fourth-generation (JB74) Jimny but also the previous-generation versions. They share a 2 250mm wheelbase and this means the kit fits vehicles going all the way back to 1998.

The Jimny RYG kit comprises a quartet of imported BILSTEIN B8 Off-Road monotube shock absorbers which are custom-built here and then paired with a set of locally-manufactured springs. This achieves, in the case of an unladen Jimny sans accessories, an increase in ride height in the order of 35 to 45mm. The kit also includes a set of high-density polyurethane bushes with an offset metal sleeve. These bushes are pressed into the original locating arms and compensate for the castor angle change that comes about with increased ride height.

RYG kits provide an unladen height increase between 30 and 50mm, in line with the objective of ensuring driveshafts and other components work within their original specification. With the Jimny, which has solid axles front and rear, driveshaft angle isn’t an issue, but loss of castor angle is, necessitating the inclusion of the non-concentric bushes.
