Hijackings in these areas have shown a steady increase unlike other cities in South Africa. The report also shows that a driver is hijacked every 32 minutes in South Africa.

We spend time teaching and upskilling ourselves in both our professional and personal lives, yet, not any people can say the same for their personal safety. The managing director of MasterDrive, Eugene Herbert, explains: “In light of statistics such as these, is it not pertinent that every South African should know exactly what to do if hijacked in the same way that we know how to read and write?”

This is the exact approach MasterDrive takes when it comes to learning how to react when hijacked. “We have developed an Urban Survival Xperience (USX) that makes these skills accessible to as many people as possible. We encourage people who participate in the course to share the skills learnt with as many people as possible.

“The USX course first shows drivers and passengers how to be aware of potentially dangerous situations. The reality, however, is that no one can ever guarantee you will never be a victim of a carjackinging and, for this reason, we teach you how to handle and react to a scenario like this.”

Drivers will also encounter many other dangerous situations on the roads. “Whether this is a criminal looking for their next target at a traffic light or being followed when driving alone at night. We considered every possible way that a driver’s personal safety can be threatened and developed a training session based on the experience of police officers and other professionals.

“We believe it is every individual’s right to know how to protect oneself on the roads and have made the USX course as accessible as possible. We have ticked all the boxes to ensure every person is empowered with the knowledge to keep themselves and their families safe on the roads.”

The USX course will also become a regular class shared in an intensive MasterClass session in the coming months. Thus, drivers who cannot attend the course during office hours or at one of the events we host, you can still participate in the course at a time that suits you. Join the MasterClass on Saturday mornings, outside of traditional business hours, at an affordable price.
