OMODA & JAECOO secure top 10 spot in South Africa’s new passenger car sales with strong December performance

With 655 vehicles sold last month, Chinese brands were the country's tenth best-selling passenger car purveyors, competing with established brands. Within the Brand O&J stable, the OMODA C5 led the charge, with 408 units delivered to customers in December.

The introduction of more affordable C5 variants in 2024, such as the Street and Style, has bolstered appeal and brought the OMODA range within reach of more customers. The JAECOO J7 remains popular among consumers looking to balance premium features with value for money. With a starting price of R549,900, it's no surprise that 1,595 buyers have already made the decision to purchase one since its launch in April 2024.

“OMODA and JAECOO have swiftly established themselves as trusted automakers in South Africa, earning the confidence of the local buying public. This is a testament to the blend of premium features, advanced design, comprehensive warranties, and exceptional value for money in all our vehicles,” commented Shannon Gahagan, National Brand and Marketing Manager for OMODA & JAECOO South Africa.

The division’s latest addition to the local lineup, the range-topping C9, continues to gain traction since its launch in mid-October. With a total of 220 units sold to date, the OMODA C9 is steadily carving out a space in the competitive premium SUV segment. As Brand O&J’s most powerful offering in South Africa, the C9 boasts an efficient 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that delivers impressive outputs of 192 kW and 400 N.m of torque.

Available in two trims - Inspire and Explore AWD - all C9 models come standard with an array of luxury and safety features, including 20-inch wheels, a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, and power-adjustable front seats, among other features.

Six new models are poised to join the South African lineup later this year, and OMODA and JAECOO anticipate more customers entering the fold, particularly as several electrified models arrive in the country. This includes the plug-in hybrid C9, the JAECOO J7 PHEV, and the all-electric JAECOO J6.

In addition to these milestones, OMODA and JAECOO are committed to ensuring exceptional aftersales support. The automakers share a 6,000m2 spare parts facility with Chery South Africa, which carries approximately 56,000 spare parts valued at R15 million. This robust parts infrastructure ensures the 52 strong dealer network maintains a 98%parts supply full rate, reinforcing the brand’s dedication to service and parts availability nationwide.

“Our commitment to delivering vehicles that combine premium quality, innovative technology, and exceptional value ensures that we remain at the forefront of meeting the evolving needs of local buyers,” concluded Gahagan.
