New look, more spec and more power for Suzuki Ciaz
Suzuki has upgraded it’s Ciaz sedan, adding a fresh new look, more specifications and a powerful new 1.5 litre engine.
Ciaz now fitted with K15B engine
The new Ciaz upgrade also introduces Suzuki’s Smartphone Linkage Display Audio (SLDA) to the GLX specification level and adds an additional model – a Ciaz 1.5 GL Automatic – to the range.
Modern and stylish
There will be no mistaking the new Ciaz from its predecessor, thanks to a new painted grille that stretches the full length of the nose between the headlamp clusters for a more modern and purposeful visual signature.
The grille is framed by chrome inserts which, in the GLX specification level, continues on the shoulder line and door handles and terminates in a new chrome garnish strip above the number plate on the boot lid.
The grille is flanked by new headlamp clusters with automatic LED headlamps and integrated daytime running lights on the GLX model. The GL model, in turn, gets new halogen projector headlamps.
The lower air intake has been redesigned in the style of Suzuki’s most recent new vehicles to be larger and more aggressive. This trapezoidal intake is flanked, on the GLX specification level, by LED fog lamps in large, chrome-lined holders.
Moving to the side profile, the Ciaz features 15” steel wheels with wheel covers for the GL specification level, while the designers have created new 16” polished chrome wheels for the GLX specification level.
At the rear, the GLX specification level adds integrated LED combination lamps while all models also feature a high-level brake light mounted in the rear window.
Higher spec cabin
Step inside the Ciaz 1.5 GLX in either manual or automatic and you will be greeted by Suzuki’s new 7” SLDA touchscreen audio system.
Recently introduced on the GLX specification level in several other Suzuki models, the SLDA system combines full Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink smartphone integration with modern features such as a reverse camera with rear park sensors, Bluetooth connectivity and voice commands.
With in-car entertainment well taken care of, Suzuki has added an additional 4.2” colour information display in the vehicle instrument cluster. This screen displays important driving information such as range, fuel consumption and outside temperature and is standard on both specification levels.
In addition, the Ciaz GLX now offers cruise control as standard. It also has automatic climate control, electrically folding side mirrors, combination leather upholstery, integrated lighting in the footwells, individual rear reading lights and a retractable rear sunshade. The remote central locking system of the GL models remains, while the GLX model is upgraded to keyless access with a Start/Stop button.
The GLX models build on the generous specification level of the GL models, which includes electric windows, remote central locking, manual air conditioning, steering mounted audio controls, a centre armrest with integrated storage, rear air conditioning vents and an additional 12V socket for the back-seat passengers.
Safety well taken care off
In Suzuki tradition, all models feature the same dynamic and passive safety systems. In the Ciaz, this includes airbags for the driver and front passenger, ABS brakes with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD) and brake assistance (BAS) and the addition of a high-level brake light.
All models are also fitted with an alarm and immobiliser, child-proof rear child door locks and additional side-impact protection on all doors.
Ciaz now fitted with K15B engine
Suzuki has not only upgraded the Ciaz styling and specification but has replaced the 1 373cc K14B-engine with its modern 1 462cc K15B engine with multi-point fuel injection and variable valve timing.
The new engine delivers 77 kW at 6 000 rpm and 138 Nm at 4 400 rpm, which is 7 kW and 8 Nm more than the previous model. Fuel consumption increases marginally to 5.5 litres per 100 km for manual models and 5.6 litres per 100 km for automatic models in a combined cycle, and owners will benefit from the additional power and more linear power delivery of the K15B engine.
The engine is matched with a five-speed manual gearbox or four-speed automatic gearbox, with the latter now also available in a GL specification level.
All Ciaz models will be sold with a 3-year / 60 000 km service plan and Suzuki’s promotional 5-year / 200 000 km vehicle warranty.
The range is available immediately in the choice of Snow White, Sangria Red, Dignity Brown, Premium Silver, Stargaze Blue, Magma Grey and Midnight Black Metallic and now consists of:
