Efficient SEAL U DM-i hybrid model joins trio of EVs in initial line-up More than 30 dealerships planned to open in Romania by end of 2025
BYD brings new-energy vehicles to Romania
BYD, the world’s leading manufacturer of new-energy vehicles, is now officially available in Romania, bringing cutting-edge technology and efficient pure-electric and DM-I plug-in hybrid models to another significant European car market.
BYD SEALION 7
Romanian customers are being offered a choice of SUV and sedan body styles, as well as powertrains, in the initial product roll-out. The flagship model is the SEALION 7, a high-performance all-electric SUV that can accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 4.5 seconds, while offering up to 502km of range from its Blade Battery. It harnesses the full potential of BYD’s renowned commitment to research and development, featuring Cell-to-Body construction for exceptional rigidity and safety, along with the world’s fastest electric motor in mass production, capable of an astonishing 23,000rpm.
Customers can also choose the sleek SEAL sedan, which features the same high-tech construction as the SEALION 7 and a lower profile that helps it to achieve up to 570km of WLTP range from its Blade Battery.
BYD SEAL U DM-i
For those buyers who require even more regular long-distance cruising flexibility, BYD is also introducing the SEAL U DM-i plug-in hybrid SUV as part of the first wave of Romanian offerings. Equipped with sophisticated Super DM hybrid technology, which mixes the smooth, responsive driving experience of an EV with exceptional real-world range, the family-sized SEAL U DM-i can travel for more than 1,000km when fully charged and filled with petrol.
BYD’s Romanian range is completed by the big-value ATTO 2 compact SUV, which mixes a practical family-friendly cabin, packed with useful everyday technologies, with the same breakthrough Blade Battery and Cell-to-Body construction as the SEALION 7 and SEAL.
The first Romanian retail outlets are both in the country’s capital, Bucharest, via partnerships with two dealers, Tiriac Auto and DAB Auto. BYD expects to open more than 30 sales points across Romania by the end of 2025, including outlets in Ploiesti, Brasov, Iasi, Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara, Constanta, Pitesti and Craiova.

Stella Li, Executive Vice President of BYD, commented: "We're really excited to be opening our network in Romania. At BYD, our mission is to make our sustainable technologies accessible to as many consumers as possible, so every new market in Europe is extremely important to us. We're delighted, too, to be launching here with both our SEALION 7 high-performance SUV and our SEAL U DM-i, covering the needs of buyers who want practical, pure-electric motoring and the long-distance flexibility of our Super DM hybrid. We're looking forward to growing our presence here throughout 2025 and beyond."
Founded in 1995, BYD (Build Your Dreams) is the only NEV producer to have developed its own power systems, power batteries, automotive semiconductors, motors and motor controller systems. Last November, BYD became the first auto maker in the world to reach the production milestone of 10 million NEVs – a groundbreaking figure that is testament to the company’s steadfast commitment to sustainable development. As a technology company, BYD employs over 110,000 engineers and technicians, and it applies for more than 40 new patents every working day.
BYD introduced the game-changing Blade Battery in 2020. The flat, rectangular design of the Blade Battery ensures better cooling and preheating, and the fully cobalt-free lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry successfully passed a puncture test designed to simulate internal short circuits caused by sharp objects penetrating the battery during a severe traffic accident. During the test, the battery’s temperature ranged from 30-60 °C, and no smoke or flames were emitted. Blade Batteries can also withstand more than 5,000 charge and discharge cycles.
